May 14, 2018 at 3:24pm

The 8th Annual Arts for Leukemia event took place on May 12 in Barrhaven, Ottawa.

UFCW Local 175 Union Steward Franca Johnston from Ross’s Yig organizes the popular event. With the help of her son and friends and her Union Rep Jacques Niquet, Franca runs the successful fundraiser every year. This year’s donations totalled $2,450.45. The total money raised over the last eight years for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) is $20,309.

This year included music, comedy, and poems, plus lots of door prizes handed out throughout the night as well. Thank you to all the artists who donated art pieces for the silent auction for your generosity.

In addition, a big thank-you goes to the great volunteers who work hard to set up and run the Arts for Leukemia each year. They set up craft and bake sale tables, decorate the hall, and help throughout the night. Over the years, they’ve cultivated a great atmosphere of camaraderie. It shows in the great community turnout for the evening plus lots of contributions from local artists and entertainers.
